Anticipation and Trust

There are many thoughts that go through my head in a day, some more profound than others.  I know we have a couple more months to go but Christmas has been on my mind.  The part of my that likes to plan ahead is already trying to figure out what we'll be doing, when, where...

Advent is my favorite season.  I love the anticipation of a good surprise.  I don't really like the anticipation of something painful or unknown (like labor, moving, starting work again in a few days!!!), but the anticipation of a gift, a party, seeing friends and family... I love it!  I really like giving and receiving gifts, which is somewhat at odds with this side of me that tries hard not to be materialistic, but I love it.  But more than the moment of opening the gifts or watching others open then is the moment right before.

There is one experience that S. portrays regularly throughout a day that perfectly expresses how I feel about Advent.  When he is all fussy and I pick him up, we settle down and I nestle him in the crook of my arm, he makes the most wonderful expression of "I know what's coming, and I'm so..."  Words fail me but I think you probably understand what I'm getting at.

A friend visiting recently listened to me reflect on this and said, "That's trust."

Something to ponder, perhaps there is something new to learn about Advent.
